BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

Mahershala Ali, “Green Book”

Adam Driver, “BlacKkKlansman”

Sam Elliott, “A Star Is Born”

Richard E. Grant, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”

Sam Rockwell, “Vice”

The supporting actor categories are usually where the Academy decides to get a little bit weird, and this could be where it happens. While Mahershala Ali is the heavy favorite after winning the Golden Globe, SAG Award, and Critic’s Choice Award, I can totally see Richard E. Grant pulling a surprise win here. If the Academy decided to get really whacky, they could decide to give it to Sam Elliott – who would, buy the way, totally deserve it for his stunningly vulnerable and authentic turn as Jackson Maine’s supportive yet long-suffering brother in A Star Is Born. But I’m sticking with Green Book since I think it will be the conciliatory prize it gets in lieu of Best Original Screenplay or Best Picture. I think.

Editor-in-Chief - I'm overworked in the tech industry and started this charming little blog so I could rant about movies, tv, pop culture, politics, and whatever the hell else I feel like talking about. I've conquered Comic-Con many times, and my love for Star Wars is a little bit embarrassing. I'm also hungry all the time.
