BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE

Yalitza Aparicio, “Roma”

Glenn Close, “The Wife”

Olivia Colman, “The Favourite”

Lady Gaga, “A Star Is Born”

Melissa McCarthy, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”

For the love of God, just please give the Oscar to Glenn Close, already. I’m usually not a fan of the “it’s their time” vote, but after watching The Wife, I can not only give a full-throated endorsement of her powerhouse and vulnerable performance, but I can also say – with the conviction and exhaustion of a true Glenn Close fan – that she should have an Oscar before now. If you rewatch her in either Fatal Attraction or especially Dangerous Liaisons, then you’ll see the injustice she’s suffered at the hands of the Academy starting 30 years ago, and cheer her on come Oscar night.

The only potential foil is Olivia Colman in The Favourite, who was incredible as Queen Anne, but I’ll literally cry all freaking night if Glenn Close loses. Then eat my emotions.

Editor-in-Chief - I'm overworked in the tech industry and started this charming little blog so I could rant about movies, tv, pop culture, politics, and whatever the hell else I feel like talking about. I've conquered Comic-Con many times, and my love for Star Wars is a little bit embarrassing. I'm also hungry all the time.
