Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture — Drama

Jessica Chastain, Molly’s Game

Sally Hawkins, The Shape of Water

Frances McDormand, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Meryl Streep, The Post

Michelle Williams, All the Money in the World

Winner: Ugggggghhhh. Okay, this is another tough one. Chastain and Williams are out, just due to lack of momentum around their respective films. That leaves a three-way race between Hawkins, Streep, and McDormand. Streep has had her time at The Globes last year, so it may be time to let some new blood in. Hawkins gives an absolutely beautiful, touching, wistful performance in Shape of Water that’s almost straight out of a silent film, and she would be totally deserving of the win should she get it. But my bet’s on McDormand, who is riding a steady wave of enthusiasm over Three Billboards. I wasn’t wild about the movie, or her character in it, but she acted the hell out of her role, as MacDormand does on the regular.

Editor-in-Chief - I'm overworked in the tech industry and started this charming little blog so I could rant about movies, tv, pop culture, politics, and whatever the hell else I feel like talking about. I've conquered Comic-Con many times, and my love for Star Wars is a little bit embarrassing. I'm also hungry all the time.
