Totally Unreliable and Slightly Profane 75th Golden Globes Predictions

Best Original Score — Motion Picture

Carter Burwell, Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri

Alexandre Desplat, The Shape of Water

Jonny Greenwood, Phantom Thread

John Williams, The Post

Hans Zimmer, Dunkirk

Winner: Okay, first I gotta vent a little. Hans Zimmer’s score to Dunkirk was the perfect accompaniment to the rising sense of urgency and danger throughout the film. But… wasn’t it just like the same siren cues from parts of his Batman score, looped over and over again? Most people probably didn’t notice, but I sure as hell did! He should have definitely gotten one for Blade Runner 2049, which took some inspiration from the original film, but it was altogether a much more impactful and ORIGINAL score than Dunkirk. And while you probably won’t find a more fervent John Williams fan, I’m not sure the score from The Post was altogether that memorable. I think it’s between Johnny Greenwood and Alexandre Desplat, and I’m giving the edge to Desplat only because The Shape of Water is the more widely celebrated film. I also had Desplat’s score dancing in my head long after the film was over. So there’s that.

Editor-in-Chief - I'm overworked in the tech industry and started this charming little blog so I could rant about movies, tv, pop culture, politics, and whatever the hell else I feel like talking about. I've conquered Comic-Con many times, and my love for Star Wars is a little bit embarrassing. I'm also hungry all the time.
